Spring Cleaning

Spring has sprung. While many of us are smelling daffodils unfortunately some are still dealing with snow and ice. Regardless of your weather conditions it's time to think about spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning for the manager should be more than just cleaning or organizing your desk (although some in my practice would say that is where I should put all of my energy).  It's addressing areas of the practice that need to be “cleaned-up” or re-evaluated for efficiently and effectiveness. It may not be glamourous or even fun for that matter but I would argue necessary for the health of the practice. I recently created my own spring cleaning list and focused on three areas. It started with employee files. It was embarrassing to find files marked active for team members that haven't worked at our practice since 2015. Next on my list was the security and safety of the building and staff. All of the locks were changed, alarm codes reset, and safety plans and exits revisited. My third task was the line item audit of my fee codes and estimates. WOW...it is amazing to find line items can become duplicated with different nomenclature and different prices for the very same thing.

Take time to create your list of three to five items for your own spring cleaning, be sure that the list can be and is completed in the next month. Our busiest time of the year is right around the corner and if you don't get things accomplished by then it is likely it won't happen.  Happy Cleaning!
