January 2019 has been, in a word, unsettling!

January 2019 has been, in a word, unsettling! Economic, political and global developments are challenging the status quo and raising questions about the future.

How will these events influence the next 11 months? I wish I had a great response to that question, but I am neither an economist nor clairvoyant, so I will refrain from making predictions.

As president of the VHMA, an association recognized as a resource for the entire veterinary sector and a trusted source for industry insights, research, and advocacy, I can assure you that our organization will continue to track and monitor trends and emerging issues to offer members the education, tools, and insights to respond effectively to change.

For more than 25 years, the VHMA has been member-focused and forward thinking about the concerns, changes, and advances in all areas that impact veterinary management---during periods of economic prosperity, as well as economic challenges. We are committed to taking the lead and identifying and offering the tools and opportunities that are critical for adapting to and embracing change.

The VHMA is not the only source for guidance during times of change. Our members play a key role. The VHMA has declared 2019 “The Year of the Member.” Each month we will profile a member and his/her professional journey and underscore the pivotal role our managers play in the industry. Because everyone has a unique story and a distinctive management issue they’ve grappled with, we believe these personal accounts will allow our ever-growing membership to get to know other managers, learn from their experiences and be inspired by their accomplishments. A different member will be featured each month in this newsletter. I regret that we cannot profile all of our members, but I do encourage you to share your journey with other members so that they too may learn from your experiences and be inspired by your successes.

In 2019, I am looking forward to working with all of you to create a great member experience and move the profession forward.

Happy New Year!

Jim Nash, MHA, CVPM
VHMA President
